War service: Egypt, Gallipoli, Western Front Embarked Alexandria to join the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force (Gallipoli Campaign), 12 April 1915. Admitted to Egyptian Army Hospital, Cairo, 12 May 1915 (gunshot wound, left foot and head); transferred to Lady Godley's Home, Alexandria, date not stated; discharged, 31 May 1915, and taken on strength of New Zealand & Australia Base Depot, Alexandria, the same day. Proceeded overseas to the Dardanelles, 6 June 1915; rejoined unit, Anzac, 10 June 1915. Promoted Corporal, 1 October 1915. Disembarked Alexandria with unit, 29 December 1915. Wounded in action, 23 June 1916 (accidental - premature detonation of a grenade); rejoined unit, 7 July 1916. Appointed Temporary Sergeant, 1 September 1916.
