Military Medal 'During the attack on the Messines Ridge on 7th June 1917, he was a stretcher bearer who showed great devotion to duty. He continued to carry wounded through heavy shell fire through the whole operation although greatly exhausted. He has previously done splendid work and shown great bravery on several occasions and complete disregard of his personal safety.'
