Mentioned in Despatches 'On June 17th, 1917, as Messines this man accompanied 2nd Lieutenant Bridgeman who went forward as Forward Observation Officer. He rendered valuable
assistance and displayed a very high standard of courage throughout. This Gunner has always done excellent work, has been almost continuously at the gun position during the time the battery has been in action in France and has at all times set a fine example of cheerfulness to the remainder of the Battery Staff. He has seen all the fighting which the Division has been in since the Force left New Zealand.'
