Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. At Crevecoeur on 30th September 1918 when the section commanders were casualties he took charge of both and reorganised them. Under heavy machine gun fire he crawled through a hedge and two belts of wire to reconnoitre the canal crossings at Les Rues des Vignes. He was wounded but stuck to his task and tried to cross the canal by a bridge that had been blown up, but found a crossing impossible. He showed great courage and his work was most valuable.'
