Military Medal 'On the 16th September in operations near Flers showed great gallantry and initiative in bringing his gun into action. While advancing under heavy fire,
observing a large party of Germans attempting to escape he mounted his gun in the open and inflicted heavy casualties. Later when his Officer had been killed he took charge of the team and led then with great gallantry. This NCO has on previous occasions done excellent work.'
