War service: Egypt, Western Front Embarked Wellington, 1 May 1916; disembarked Suez, 9 June 1916. Embarked Alexandria, 26 July 1916; disembarked Southampton, England, 7 August 1916, and marched in to Sling Camp. Proceeded overseas to France, 20 August 1916; joined 1st Bn, Wellington Infantry Regiment, in the field, 23 September 1916. Found guilty, 27 February 1917, of being absent without leave from billet after 9 pm: awarded 10 days' Field Punishment No 2. On leave to United Kingdom, 16 September 1917; rejoined Bn from leave, 29 September 1917. Detached to Musketry School, 18 February 1918; rejoined Bn from detachment, 27 February 1918. Admitted to No 3 NZ Field Ambulance, 19 March 1918 (scabies); transferred to Casualty Clearing Station, 1 April 1918; to XVII Corps Reinforcements Camp, Abeele, 12 April 1918. Wounded in action, 16 April 1918 (gun shot wound, left thigh), and admitted to 19th Field Ambulance; transferred same day to 64th Casualty Clearing Station; to England, 19 April 1918, and admitted to No 2 NZ General Hospital, Walton-on-Thames, 19 April 1918. Transferred to NZ Convalescent Hospital, Hornchurch, 15 May 1918; discharged to duty at Hornchurch, 12 July 1918. On Command at NZ Ordnance Department, Farrington Road, London, 15 July 1918.
