Military Medal 'For gallantry and good leadership during the attack on Messines on 7th June 1917. He displayed much initiative and led his party with great skill in capturing one particularly hot corner. Later he did good work in digging out three men who had been buried by a shell. He has always done excellent work since coming to France with the Battalion in April 1917.'
