Military Cross 'For conspicuous gallantry during an attack. He led his company with great dash
through heavy enemy fire to their objective, and, finding his senior officer was a
casualty, assumed command and carried out the consolidation of the whole
battalion front. Enemy artillery and machine-gun fire was particularly heavy
throughout, and this officer showed marked courage, ability, and devotion to duty.'
