Military Cross 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He displayed great coolness and ability in handling his company. At a critical stage when the troops in front were withdrawing he rallied them and prevented many from passing through his company to the rear. He showed very quick appreciation of the situation, and sent in reports which were of the greatest value to his Commanding Officer.'
