Military Medal 'Great courage during the attack of 15th September 1916, at Flers. When the company was prevented from advancing by heavy rifle and machine gun fire, Lance Corporal Bassett left cover and kept up a constant rifle fire. By his courage and example he got others to follow him and so enabled the advance to be continued.'
