Mention in Despatches

'During fighting on the Somme from 21st September 1916, until the Battalion was finally relieved this N.C.O. was in charge of the Battalion Lewis Gun Section. He constantly visited the various runners, selected gun positions on many occasions by personal reconnaissance in "No Man's Land" during daylight and darkness. In all respects he showed great initiative and ability in keeping all terams and guns in action throughout the fighting there. By his bravery, courage and excellent leadership he was responsible for much good work being done by his section under difficult and dangerous conditions.'
