Meritorious Service Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. This NCO has displayed great gallantry and has done particularly good work in the Sector from November 1917 to February 1918, when the conditions were particularly bad. Often at great personal risk he has been untiring in his efforts to improve the comfort and safety of his men. His cheerful disposition under trying circumstances has been an example and encouragement to all.'
