War service: Egypt, Gallipoli, Western Front Embarked Egypt to join the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force, Gallipoli, 9 May 1915. Promoted Staff Captain, Gallipoli, as from 16 October 1914. Admitted to NZ Field Ambulance, Anzac, 31 July 1915 (post-influenza and debility), and transferred to Hospital Ship. Transferred from Mounted Brigade Headquarters to Auckland Mounted Rifles Regiment, as 2nd in command, with temporary rank of Major, 16 August 1915; both appointments confirmed same day. Wounded in action (slightly, remaining at duty), 27 August 1915. Reported sick, 5 September 1915; returned to duty, 9 September 1915. Resumed duties as Staff Captain, NZ Mounted Rifles Brigade, 11 October 1915. On leave to Egypt, 8 October 1915.
