Military Medal 'During the attack on the morning of the 4th October, 1917, this NCO set a fine example of courage and leadership. He took command of his Platoon when his Officer had been severely wounded. Under most heavy shell fire he consolidated the position. Later in the morning this NCO was severely wounded. He has at all times done excellent work.'
