Mention in Despatches 'Operations Somme - 25th September 1916. Flers - Grid Trenches. Between the 25th and the 28th September 1916 this NCO while acting as runner to his Company Commander carried all messages through heavy enemy barrage and frequently under brisk and dangerous rifle and machine-gun fire. This was always done cheerfully and his intelligent observations were of great use to his Company and Battalion Commander.'
