'Operations opposite Polderhoek 27th November to 1st December 1917. For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. On 29th November 1917 the regimental aid post was blown up by a direct hit from a 9.2 shell, 5 men, including the R.M.O. were buried in the debris, and what was left of the regimental aid post burst into flames. Corporal Kennedy, who had been blown through the entrance into the open air, and wounded in two places, but who was the only one of the occupants left fit to render service, immediately entered the regimental aid post, extinguished the fire, and dug out the buried men till assistance arrived. The bombardment by 9.2 Howitzers was still continuing on the regimental aid post and adjacent shelters, and several shells fell in the closest proximity. Corporal Kennedy then passed through the danger zone to bring a stretcher, and again helped to carry the cases to a place of safety, and it was not until all had been removed that he spoke of having been wounded; he was then evacuated. His courage and devotion to duty saved many lives.'
