Bar to Military Medal 'On the 19th September near Bazentin le Grand the battery positions of the 2nd Brigade were under particularly heavy fire. One shell struck an ammunition wagon of the battery, killing one and wounding the remainder of the drivers. This NCO with Lieut Warren went over immediately and withdrew the ammunition and threw water over the wagon, both of which were on fire.'

In spite of heavy shelling and bombs from enemy Trench Mortars, Bombardier Kennedy and Gunner Savingy went forward to repair wires. On arrival at the Forward Observation Officer station they found that the telephone dugouts had been blown to pieces, and stayed alongside keeping in touch with the battery and repaired the wires although under a heavy fire at the time.'
