Proceeded overseas to France, 1 March 1917; joined 1st Bn, Otago Infantry Regiment, in the field, 21 May 1917, and posted to 8th Company. Detached to 2nd Brigade as Carrier, 5 June 1917; rejoined B, 10 June 1917. Detached for duty as 2nd Brigade Carrier, 12 June 1917; rejoined Bn, 13 June 1917. Wounded in action, 3 October 1917 (gun shot wound, left forearm), and admitted to No 4 NZ Field Ambulance, and transferred to 10th Australian Field Ambulance; rejoined unit, 10 October 1917.
