Joined unit at Gallipoli, 8 June 1915, and posted to 10th Company, and reverted to the ranks.

Admitted to 1st Australian Stationary Hospital, Lemnos, 16 June 1915 (enteris), and transferred to HT 'Dunluce Castle'; to 16th Stationary Hospital, Mudros, 20 June 1915; rejoined unit, Gallipoli, 18 September 1915.

Admitted to NZ General Hospital, Cairo, 9 August 1915 (enteritis); discharged to Advanced Base Depot, Mustapha, 8 September 1915.

Transferred to England, and admitted to 2nd Southern General Hospital, Bristol, 15 October 1915; attached to NZ Base Depot, Greytowers, 17 January 1916; rejoined unit, Moascar, 1 March 1916.

Embarked to join the British Expeditionary Force, France, 6 April 1916.

Wounded in action, Armentieres, 27 June 1916 (gun shot wound, leg, face and head); admitted to No 1 NZ Field Ambulance, 30 June 1916, and transferred same day to 13th Stationary Hospital, Boulogne; to England, 4 July 1916, and admitted to No 1 NZ General Hospital, Brockenhurst; transferred to NZ Convalescent Hospital, Hornchurch, 12 December 1916.
