Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty as a Stretcher Bearer during the operations against the Passchendaele Ridge on 12th, 13th and 14th October 1917. He worked continuously, carrying in wounded from the most exposed part of our front line under very heavy machine-gun fire. His wonderful cheerfulness, stamina, and disregard of danger were responsible for saving the lives of many wounded men lying in the open under the most adverse weather conditions.'
