Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. This NCO was one of a party of five which held at bay a flanking party of the enemy estimated to be the strength of a Company near Hebuterne on 27th March 1918. He went forward with a Sergeant and one man, and after inflicting severe casualties upon the enemy, the party rushed them, taking one Officer and forty-two other ranks prisoner.'
