War service: Western Front Embarked Wellington, 23 September 1916; disembarked Devonport, England, 18 November 1916, and marched in to Sling Camp. Taken on strength, New Zealand Field Artillery, Aldershot, 15 January 1917. Proceeded overseas to France, 19 March 1917; posted to 5th Battery, 27 March 1917. On leave to United Kingdom, 17 March 1918; rejoined unit from leave, 9 April 1918. Appointed Temporary Bombardier, 3 October 1918. Wounded in action, 24 October 1918 (gun shot wound, right knee), relinquished appointment as Temporary Bombardier, admitted to 5th Field Ambulance and transferred same day to 38th Casualty Clearing Station; to 18th General Hospital, Camiers, 27 October 1918; to No 6 Convalescent Depot, Etaples, 29 October 1918; to 18th General Hospital, Camiers, 31 October 1918; to England (date not recorded), and admitted to 4th London General Hospital; transferred to NZ Convalescent Hospital, Hornchurch, 29 November 1918.
