'During the attack east of St Julien on the 4th October 1917, Private Morris carried despatches between No. 4 runner post at Toronto and No. 3 post under very heavy shell and machine gun fire thus keeping up communications when the telephone wires were out by the barrage. He showed great courage and frequently volunteered for very trying and dangerous work.'
