Military Medal 'For good leadership and fine example in the attack on Messines and on the consolidation of the position when captured. When under enfilade shell fire, and machine-gun fire from the front line his high example of courage and determination was of great value, though badly wounded he continued to direct his men until the position was consolidated. He refused to leave them until consolidation was complete and he was ordered to the Dressing Station.'
