Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. During the attack on Grevillers on 24th August 1918 he was a platoon sergeant. The Battalion on the right not having started Sergeant Barr led half the Platoon through their area to keep our flank clear thus ably assisting the advance. Later on reaching the wire South-West of Grevillers a machine gun opened fire on the party but was rushed and put out of action by the Sergeant. He showed great coolness and presence of mind during the advance and subsequent consolidation.'
