Mention in Despatches 'At Messines on the morning of June 3rd, 1917, this NCO was in charge of No 4 gun of the Battery and was preparing for an intensive bombardment of the Messines Ridge. About 8am his position came under heavy and concentrated enemy shell fire and his gun pit was severely damaged, the gun itself being almost completely buried. A less resourceful man would have been justified in reporting his gun out of action, but Sergeant Jamieson, by his great devotion to duty, his contempt for danger and his untiring effort, set such an example to the men under him that the damage was repaired and the gun in section at 9am, the appointed time for opening fire. The battery was thus enabled on that day to establish a record for Heavy Trench Mortar work. On the night of the 5th June his position was again damaged and No 3 position totally destroyed, but Sergeant Jamieson having had his position repaired, succeeded in firing from it the number of rounds allotted to both guns, a very heavy task. Sergeant Jamieson has been with the Trench Mortars over 12 months and has proved himself to be a soldier of a very high order. He has brought his sub-section to such a state of efficiency that on one occasion they succeeded in firing 25 rounds from their mortar in 20 minutes, a most meritorious performance.'
