Distinguished Conduct Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. When all the officers of his company became casualties in an attack he took command at a critical moment and pushed forward. He captured an enemy strong-point in the face of very heavy fire and held his position all day. He set a splendid example of courage, leadership and determination.'
