Military Medal 'For conspicuous devotion to duty under very heavy fire during operations on the 12th September 1918 near Gouzeaucourt. He was placed in charge of a party detailed to carry bombs and S.A.A. from the Brigade Dump to the forward posts. Regardless of heavy shell fire and deadly machine-gun fire he led his party without hesitation and at a time of urgent need, rapidly took forward supplies of hand grenades to sorely pressed detachments in the front line while the enemy was counter-attacking. But for these supplies the forward parties would have been without bombs for some time. It was an act of great courage and characteristics of the man, who always has displayed great courage and used his head under difficult circumstances.'
