Military Medal 'For gallant conduct and devotion to duty in operations east of Ypres, 4th October 1917. He took charge of the platoon when his platoon commander took over the company, and after being badly wounded he continued to direct and encourage his men, until he became practically paralysed and helpless. Throughout he remained cheerful, and altogether showed a very fine example to his men.'
