Military Medal 'For continuous gallantry and devotion to duty. Rifleman Irvine is a Battalion Runner and during the engagements at Puisieux, Miraumont, Fremicourt and east of Havrincourt Wood he performed very gallant service. In all those operations
communication with companies in their forward positions was extremely difficult and depended mainly on the Runners. Rifleman Irvine has worked consistently and his promptitude and the rapidity with which he executed his work under heavy fire
often under direct observation has been the means of keeping in touch with all changes in the offensive without delay. His contempt of danger and his cheerfulness under very trying conditions has at all times been an inspiration to his
comrades.'
