Military Cross 'For devotion to duty, distinguished service and courageous work. This officer has rendered services of measurable value to the Battalion without sparing himself and without thought for his own safety. There are few cases of more unselfish devotion to duty that has been exemplified by this officer. His services during the Messines operations alone, proved his ability, courage and determination. He set a splendid example to the men and worked himself without mercy in order to ensure the success of the operation. No praise is too high for his work and it is impossible to overestimate the value of his services. He is an officer of exceptional ability and the battalion has benefited much as a result of his work.'
