Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. During the Havrincourt Wood operation Private Idle was in command of a section, and his work throughout the day of the 6th September 1918 was marked with conspicuous ability. Again at night he established flank liaison under very difficult conditions, and the Company being held up, he led a dangerous patrol, successfully reconnoitring the nature and location and the enemy resistance. Throughout the further advance of the following day he continued tireless in his energies, and finally volunteered to guide in a relief, having to go through heavy shell fire to reach them.'
