Military Medal 'On night of September 29th, 1918, and on following day when the horse lines of the 12th Battery, 3rd. Brigade, New Zealand Field Artillery, were heavily shelled Sergeant Barnes remained with the animals, attending the wounded and setting a fine example of courage and devotion to duty under most trying conditions. During the period 17th September to 31st December, 1918, this N.C.O. has done consistently good work.'
