Military Cross 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. On October 5th, 1918, at the St Quentin Canal, he lead a patrol through the Village of Vaucelles and the trench system in this vicinity, which established the fact of the enemy's withdrawal. He then saw the commander of the troops on the spot and succeeded in getting him to advance his men. In the operations on October 8th, it was largely due to his driving spirit and resolution that his company stormed the way south of Lesdain, inflicting many casualties and securing over 300 prisoners. His dashing leadership and courage has always been a strong incentive to all ranks under his command.'
