'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He showed the greatest coolness during the June offensive and did especially valuable service in keeping up ammunition supply. On one occasion he took charge of an S.A.A. party at night and led it through an enemy barrage to where the ammunition was urgently needed. His cheerful disposition and pluck at all times inspired great confidence in his men. Sergeant Hunter has served on Gallipoli and also through the Somme operations.'
