Military Cross 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He showed excellent leadership in leading his company through a heavy barrage and reorganising them without a casualty. He led his company to the final objective, over most difficult ground, capturing and consolidating the position very rapidly. He showed great courage and judgement throughout.'
