Military Medal 'Operations during advance east of Cambrai - 13th October -11th November 1918. For gallantry and devotion to duty. On 7.11.18 near Autrepe led his platoon with courage and judgement to objective, organised his position and placed his Lewis gun and prepared for counter attack. On being ordered to withdraw he skillfully covered his withdrawal amid a heavy hostile barrage without losing a single man. On 9.11.19 near Coegnies Chaussee he led a patrol to the enemy positions and obtained valuable information in spite of exposed position and enemy machinegun fire. This NCO has throughout these operations showed skilful leadership and a disregard for danger that afforded him excellent example to his men.'
