Military Medal 'On February 14th 1917, this man was one of the crew of a stokes Mortar Gun in action. A cartridge misfired and the fuse of the shell which was in the Mortar was heard fizzing. The Corporal in charge of the Mortar seized and inverted it. Private Hough caught the shell as it slipped from the gun and threw it over the parapet where it exploded, thereby saving the Mortar and 60 rounds of ammunition laying beside it. This man has previously done good work with the Battery.'
