Military Medal 'At Gravenstafel east of Ypres on 4th October, 1917. This man carried very important messages back to Battalion Headquarters, quickly and safely, all day and in doing so had to pass through the enemy S.O.S. barrage, but this did not trouble him in the least and he showed utter disregard of danger. He has previously done most excellent work and has invariably set a very high example of courage and devotion to duty.'
