Distinguished Conduct Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry in action. He displayed great courage and determination in continuing to keep the guns in action under the most intense hostile fire. On another occasion he collected a few men and extinguished a fire in a burning gun pit. He has at all times set a splendid example.'
