'On the 21st October, 1917, near Schuler Galleries, Pte Hinds, with great daring, and at very great personal risk, rushed out from the shelter of a concrete dugout, and dressed a wounded man in the open, the whole time being subjected to intense shell fire. He set a fine example, and his prompt action probably saved the man from bleeding to death, in as much as he was badly wounded in three places.'
