Military Medal 'Operations: British front before Puisieux 14th-18th August 1918. For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. For several days preceding the enemy's retirement Corporal Hill went out on patrol regularity. Each time he gained contact with the enemy and always drew a good deal of fire from the enemy's posts. On the morning of the 14th August, when it was thought that the enemy was exceptionally quiet. Corporal Hill went forward into the enemy's posts and found them evacuated. This information was exceptionally valuable during the succeeding days. In Puisieux this NCO was out on patrol several times each day. He gained the reputation of being the best patrol leader in the Battalion and he showed great dash throughout. He set a fine example of coolness, courage and initiative to all ranks of his Unit.'
