Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. At Hebuterne on 15th July 1918, Corpl Hill was in charge of rations and munition carrying parties for the garrison of the advance line just captured and rendered distinguished service. Under adverse weather conditions and always exposed to shell fire, he never once failed to carry through and by his splendid example and cheerfulness so inspired the men under his charge that although almost exhausted with their labours, and greatly fatigued, they succeeded in making up and keeping complete, not only the necessary reserve of ammunition but also full and regular supplies of rations and water. The fine spirit shown by this NCO, was an inspiration to the advanced garrisons and materially aiding in the further advancement of the line by the later.'
