Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. Near Bancourt on the 1st September 1918 when on patrol with another man he attacked an enemy trench which was strongly held and secured valuable information. On returning his companion was wounded and Pte Hermiston endeavoured to carry him in under heavy machine-gun fire. He showed exceptional courage.'
