Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and fearless leadership. During the attack near Gravenstafel, on 4th October 1917, he led his section in a rush against a Pillbox, and captured it, taking some prisoners. Later when he was the Sergeant left, in the Company, in the Front Line, he took charge of his sector,and by his bravery and cheeful bearing, under difficult and trying conditions, set a splendid example to his men.'
