Distinguished Conduct Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He led his men with great dash and determination in an attack, advanced beyond his objective, and put out of action two enemy machine guns which were enfilading the troops who were advancing on the right. His pompt action enabled the right flank to continue the advance and reach the objective. He set a splendid example to his men.'
