Military Medal 'For great coolness and devotion to duty at Messines on 7th June 1917. When his Company Sergeant-Major was killed, he took over his duties and was invaluable to his Company Commander in reorganising and set a fine example to his men. When the last Officer in this Company became a casualty he carried on until relieved later on in the evening.'
