Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty as a Company Runner during the attack on the Passchendaele Ridge on 12th October 1917. He repeatedly carried messages over heavily swept by enemy machine gun fire. He proved invaluable in maintaining communication between his Company and Battalion Headquarters.'
