Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty near Bancourt on the 1st September 1918. This N.C.O. was in charge of a Lewis Gun team when his platoon was taken by surprise by a hostile machine gun at close range. He immediately engaged the machine gun, and by skilful maneouvring, beat down its fire, and forced it out of its position. He displayed a fine skill and initiative as well as cool courage, which enabled his platoon to move forward successfully.'
