Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. On the 5th October 1918 near Cheneaux Wood, this man was a member of a patrol in an advance in open warfare. A concealed machine gun nest suddenly opened fire from a flank and caused several casualties. Pte Harper immediately worked round the gun and shot the gunner. He then led a small party who succeeded in cutting off the entire gun crew of 12. This gallant action enabled the line to push forward and secure substantial results. He has on several occasions while acting as scout shown the greatest initiative and determination in making progress.'
